Going green? Some folks might think this is somewhat difficult. The negative thought of going green is rooted from the fact that we are accustomed to the modern way of living, fast and definitely leaves many wastes behind. There are those that also don’t support the idea because they think it would be expensive on their part. This might be the setup for some but this may not be necessary at all times. In fact there ways on how we can live green without altering much of our daily “busy” lives.
Most people think, when we say living green, it always means putting up a solar panel or a wind mill to drive the turbines. This is the idea that actually gave birth to the thought living green is expensive. But not so much as there are ways to improve our daily routines to help our environment. These are the things that affect most of our environment: power consumption, waste products and “easy” living.
As mostly known, power consumption are the ones being in the first row when talking about green living. Thus most people think it will only be possible to ease up the environment by harnessing naturally occurring energies we have. This may look exclusively for our electricity but this may actually be broad enough to cover anything you use each day. Yes, electricity is most common way to go green. By utilizing the naturally occurring energy like the solar or wind energy and converting it into electricity we can create green energy. It won’t just reduce, if not to eliminate totally, your monthly electric bill but you’ll also reduce the emissions produced by the power-producing plants. This is common but some may find this expensive, although there guides that offers ways on how to build your own solar panel the inexpensive way.
Other than electricity one important way to reduce harmful effects of fossil fuels is reduce car emissions. But how can we simply do this? Actually this might be easy as you might have thought. There are times that we take cabs even with short distances. Though this may be faster the emissions produced are not really necessary sometimes. If you have extra time to spare with your appointment why not try walking? This will save you money plus you can do some exercise. Not to mention the reduced emission. Walking a block or two won’t hurt much.
Another important point you may also look into is using your own car. There are public transports available that can readily serve for the purpose transportation. Of course it may be much convenient if you use your own car but if you can use a public transport, use it. It’s because that public transport, like bus and subways, are already using fuel and using them instead of your own car will save some good amount of harmful emissions from being released into the air. Imagine if a thousand folks will think of using this as an alternative in a day. Now imagine a million, wouldn’t it make difference? Yes, a public transport will never replace the convenience of using your own car. But if you’ll be planning to go alone and you don’t have many things to bring with you, it won’t be that difficult.
Wastes from the various product that we use each day, it may be at home or in the office, also contributes to the already worsening environmental situation. So what’s about it? If you’re living in an urban area, have you known about the population on your locality? If there is a thousand homes there, and each has an average daily waste of about half a kilo in a day imagine it after a month? That is something to think of. But of course we can’t stop this entirely. All we can do for now is to reduce our daily wastes. But how? Well, start to see all the wastes that you use each day. There are some of it that can be recycled like tin cans, plastics bags or any plastic materials and papers. Sort things out so that it will be much manageable. Don’t wait for the waste to accumulate in your garbage container, do it before throwing it away. That way, it will be much easier to control and you’ll know which one will go and which one can be recycled. Food waste such as fruit peelings can even be processed to be used as fertilizers for your garden.
Our devastated environment was actually caused by the developments that we brought up as years pass by. But why do scientists and inventors waste so much time developing new things? We can stay in our simple lives anyway, plowing fields to grow crops then exchange it other goods to cope with our other needs. The reason is actually simple, we all want to live the “easy” way. Well, we call it improving our lives most of the time. The reason that someone will build a machine that can carry more people faster rather than using horse is to live faster and easy. We all want to live a “simple” life and that would mean talking to someone without actually meeting him or her in person. And that simplicity is to make things much faster than before. But hey, I don’t mean to ridicule the developments we have now. I cannot imagine myself without computers and internet these days. It’s just that if one has to see the facts on how things come up the only reason for all of this lifestyle. We are accustomed to this life thus we can’t change things in a year or so. But gradual change will be good as long as we are committed to do it so.
Moreover, things we have now have affected our lives greatly though some of it have negative effects on our environment. What we can do now is to reverse the effect. Go slow on the wastes. Recycle if you can, reduce energy consumption whenever possible. So is going green really easy? It would depend on you really. If you want it then this will be easy like a walk in the park. But if don’t have the right attitude for it then this may sound strange and hard. At the end we will be reaping good benefits from these little sacrifices.
